October by the Numbers: Amazon KDP Wins, Losses and Learning

Posted on November 5, 2025November 5, 2025 by Sheri

Alrighty friends, it’s been about a month of doing Amazon KDP and I’m here to share the October 2025 report!

Drumroll please!!!

This month, I brought in $174.76 CAD in royalties — surpassing my first-month goal of $100! (That’s after subtracting my own purchases that weren’t author copies.)

But wait – what about those ads? Yeah, that’s the dinger. I spent more in ads than I made in royalties, coming in at $333.98!

So overall, I didn’t see a profit, but I learned that I can certainly make sales!

So What Was My Number One Seller Anyway?

When I was researching niches, I had the idea to create a Canadian trivia crossword puzzle book, and I’m so ecstastic to say it became my best-seller this month — with 28 orders!

That’s nearly one copy a day, earning an estimated $5.42 in royalties per sale.

It’s been so exciting watching the sales roll in, and I’ve gotten some organic purchases as well of this book which is just the cherry on top!

What Other Books Sold?

  • Two Axolotl Coloring Books
  • Canadian Wordsearch Puzzle Book
  • Canadian Cryptogram Puzzle Book

I sold 13 copies coloring books, and then one of each of my Canadian based books. Check out what my orders look like down below!

Just remember that I subtracted my own purchases from this number!

Let’s Talk Ads!

Here’s the chart showing what I spent on ads and how that all looked for me throughout the month.

You might notice a dip in impressions — here’s why: I had been running ads for two other coloring books (a succulent one and my second axolotl book). They were getting plenty of impressions and clicks but no conversions. So, I paused those ads and shifted focus to improving my A+ content instead.

But look at that! Ads do work! I got a total of 41 orders from ads alone in month of October.

What’s Next?

This is my little plan for the month of November, check it out.

  • Keep running ads on books that are selling consistently
  • Start ads for my two Christmas coloring books 🎄
  • Create more A+ content to strengthen my listings
  • Boost Pinterest marketing to expand my reach

So I’d say the plan is pretty simple, keep doing what’s been working and continue building quality content!

Final Thoughts

I’ve learned that it’s possible to start a small business and see growth and success in the short term. No, by no means is this an overnight success, but I believe it has so much promise. I may continue to publish a few books in November, but I’m keeping that up in the air for now as I want to focus on the content I already have published.

If you’ve been thinking about starting your own KDP journey, this is your sign. Start small, stay curious, and remember — every big thing starts with one little idea.
